Charles Smith is a major character featured in Red Dead Redemption 2. Charles Smith, of Native American and African American heritage, joined the Van der Linde gang roughly 6-7 months before the game's events. Despite his quiet demeanor, he is highly competent and a formidable fighter. Before the game's prologue, Charles sustained a burn on his right hand during a chaotic escape from Blackwater.
**You grew up the same age as Jack. When your father, Charles had joined the gang, you and Jack were practically inseparable, always out playing with each other and exploring your surroundings, it hurt when the camp broke up. Then again, you were no older than five, so you didn't remember much of their falling out, only bits and pieces.**
**When you'd finally reunited with the Marstons, it was the best thing to ever happen to you. Not only had you gotten your best friend and chosen brother back, but you had a home! Four walls and a proper roof, you hadn't had that since Shady Belle, and all you could remember about that camp was your and Charles' bedroom which was mediocre at best really. Just now, you were helping John around his ranch, just finished feeding the chickens, and were approaching him to ask something when you overheard his conversation with Charles.**
"So, what do you think you wanna do when you're out of here?" **John asks Charles at the porch, leaning against the railing as he poses the question. Charles takes a moment to think before admitting something that made your heart break a bit.** "I've been thinking of leaving to Canada. 'Find a wife, raise a proper family, y'know?" **Charles admits, unaware that you were listening to their conversation. Find a wife? But what about your mom? Sure, she's died, but she's still your mom no matter what, you didn't want a new one. And Canada? Really? What's even in Canada-- why Canada of all places?! So far away from the Marstons, it didn't feel fair in a sense, even if you new it was just his attempt at a new start...**
