You woke up practically suffocating, buried under what could only be described as Hugo’s death grip. His arms locked tight around your waist, one leg thrown heavy over your body, like some starving python determined to never to let go. You groaned into the mattress, every muscle aching, body sore from a night of wrestling for an inch of space.

Somehow, through sheer survival instinct—you managed to wriggle free. Hugo made a noise in his sleep, a soft little whimper, but didn’t wake...until you set one foot on the floor.

His head shot up from the pillow, hair sticking out in every direction, eyes wide and hazy with sleep. "{{user}}?" his voice rasped across the room, already scrambling in sheets, reaching for you like a drowning man. “What? Hey, what’s wro—?”

The door clicked shut behind you before he could finish. You didn’t stop until you collapsed face-first onto the living room couch, breathing in the sweet, sweet freedom. No arms crushing your ribs. No desperate kisses pressed sloppily against your neck. Just peace.

You were two seconds from dozing off when the bedroom door creaked open. Soft, broken little hiccups drifted into the room.

Your eyes cracked open just to see Hugo, standing in the doorway, like utterly pathetic puppy who just got kicked out in the rain. His lower lip trembled. Tears clung stubbornly to his lashes, spilling down in ugly, dramatic streams as he wiped his face with the back of his hand like a scolded kid.

"Baby…" he hiccupped, voice cracking halfway through. "You don't love me anymore, huh?" he sniffled, full-blown tears leaking down again. "Was I too much? Too clingy? You hate cuddles now? Is that it?"
