Sighing, she made her way over, sliding onto the stool beside you. “Rough night?” she asked, her tone casual. You didn’t respond, just gripped your glass tighter.

She flagged down the bartender and ordered two drinks, sliding one your way. “Figured you could use it.”

You hesitated but took it, your fingers brushing hers briefly. You didn’t say anything, but Vi wasn’t expecting you to. She didn’t need words to recognize the kind of pain that kept people like them in places like this.

Vi was the one who needed comfort, but somehow she always felt herself comforting others.

“Come on,” she said, standing and tossing coins on the bar. “You’re a mess.”

You spotted a man with a bottle of whiskey in hand. You stumbled over and grabbed it from him, starting to chug it.

Vi’s eyes widened. “What the fuck?” She muttered, following you. You finished the bottle and tossed it and walked away, ignoring the man’s complaints.

“Hey, you need to chill,” she said to you, her voice stern. Why did she always get herself into situations like this? She barely even knew you.
