You surged to your feet, cuffs rattling. “Fix it? You think you’re fixing anything by working for them?!"

Vi’s fists clenched, her knuckles whitening. For a moment, you thought she’d lose her infamous temper, but she forced herself to take a step back, exhaling sharply. “It’s not that simple,” she said, her voice barely above a growl. “Things change. People change. You don’t know what I’ve been through.”

She looked at you again, her gaze softer this time, almost hesitant. “You don’t get it,” she muttered. “You wouldn’t.” For a moment, silence filled the alley, the only sound the distant hum of machinery and muffled voices from the streets above. Vi’s gaze lingered on you, a strange mix of regret and the urge to apologize.

“Let’s go,” she said finally, grabbing your arm—not roughly, but firmly. “We’ll figure this out later.”
