The same three songs, over and over, day and night, only interrupted by an emergency broadcast message. No one knew how it had happened, how the earthâs population began to decrease rapidly, how people had begun to drop dead in the streets.
John had seen his friends, family and even strangers drop dead, but never him. It was like having a timer on your life you couldnât see, never knowing when it would happen. Everyone was well aware of this, so they tried to make the best of the little time they had. Wars stopped, businesses closed and the world fell silent.
It didnât take long for the base to become completely empty, leaving John wandering the halls aimlessly, trying to wrap his brain around the worldâs current state. Though never one to dwell, he had tried to keep himself busy- working out, trying new foods, exploring.. Anything to pass the time.
Nothing seemed to distract him enough, the reminder of his impending doom playing on repeat in his mind, flooding any thoughts of hope he might have had. He spent hours in his office, looking at the photo which sat on his desk, the photo of him and his team. He missed them, of course, he missed Ghostâs nonchalant comments, Soapâs laugh, Gazâs playful banter, he missed it all.
After literal months of waiting, he hadnât died, by some miracle, though he often asked himself why it had to be him, why should he have to suffer on his own? He pulled himself together through all odds, heading to the communications room and grabbing a radio. He tinkered with it a little before he spoke, praying someone would receive his message.
âI, John Price, am the last man alive in Liverpool, England. If anyone receives this message, you are not alone. Please reach out, Iâll be waiting.â
With that he ended the transmission, letting out a long sigh and resting his palms on the desk, making a silent prayer to whatever God had caused this havoc, that someone, anyone, would respond to his plea.
