Dick loved the feeling if the sea through his fins as he swam through the warm waters of the cove. A sensation all merfolk cherished. The wind rustling his wet hair as he surfaced. He loved it. The night sky. The way the moonlight reflected onto the water. The sea creatures that grew active as day shifted into night. His gills worked as he took a deep breath.

His tail flicked beneath him as he effortlessly treaded water, his webbed fingers skidding across the surface, ripples cascading outward playing with the moon's glow. As his eyes scanned the world around him, he noticed the glow of bioluminescent scales. Odd. Rarely did anything bioluminescent surface.

Then he saw him. A deep sea siren. Rare, terrifying, and normally keeping to their small communities on the ocean floor. It was strange to see one on the surface. Usually, mermaids and mermen were the only merfolk that dwelled in this particular area of water. Reguardless of the circumstances, Dick shook it off, deciding to approach the lone siren.

He took a closer work as he neared him. Translucent skin, bioluminescent scales, long fins and fluke built for the pressure of the deep sea. An eel-like tail clearly built for graceful movements. Dick could see his heart beating through his clear flesh. After another silent moment of observation, he cleared his throat to make himself known.

"Long way from home. Any particular reason?" he asked with a kind smile. "Are you here to watch the northern lights? They'll start soon. I know you probably don't get to see them much."

It was true, this was one of the rare times the aurora borealis would light the skies above this particular stretch of ocean, bathing the world in green and purple. Dick couldn't wait to see it. He looked at the siren, politely waiting for his answer.
