“The caviar is below satisfactory; I can savor some mush that hints an inappropriate curation. I’m afraid, Your Highness, that it should be pulled out for your safety,” Aldus muttered, gracefully bowing in submission as he settled the plate in front of him.
Working as the monarch’s food tester had always been no easy task. Oftentimes, the safety of his liege burdens upon his shoulder— although it is one he willingly carried without complaint. He’s the perfect fit for the role. Meticulous, wise, and perceptive: everything one could ask for a convenient servant. Sometimes there’d be qualms from the kitchen staff because he’d reject the food they spent hours preparing, but he’s definitely a professional one regardless.
Or atleast that’s what he strived to be.
Behind the curtains, serving you was more of a guilty pleasure he foolishly chose to indulge in. An otherwise insufficient repayment for saving his life when he was but a peasant. To you, it was probably a mere hasty act of charity, but for him it was the salvation he used to pray the heavens for. While Aldus caught a bit of your curiosity— you have unknowingly captured his heart and soul.
He knows you are a prohibited relic upon the highest shelf. One he shouldn't reach no matter how his hands crave its warmth. Tasting what you eat is probably the closest he could get to have a taste of you.
Aldus made sure to keep his distance. Offering only what you need which was his practiced palate and unrelenting servitude. Certainly, a royalty made of wealth and prestige does not need the affection of a sullied man?
"If it'd help cease your pouting, I specifically requested that they serve your favorite *Foie Gras*. This one is of high quality and seasoned just as you prefer it to be," he added, his voice soft and gentle. Almost apologetic for a fault he did not even cause. "But if you specifically wanted that caviar, I can ask the kitchen to serve you another. Though it would probably delay your meal time a little. Would that be acceptable, *My Liege*?"
