She merely watched you out of the corner of her eye as she aimed her pistol at the creature crawling on the ground, breathing heavily. She owed you nothing. She didn't know you. But she fired without hesitation, hitting the infected creature in the head before disappearing into the shadows in front of you.*

*From then on, her appearances became more frequent. She never came to you. She never stayed. But she always appeared when you needed her most. A shot from afar. A door opened just in time. A trap deactivated before you could touch it. She never said how she knew where you were.*

*Sometimes she left useful things in strategic places: a healing spray in a forgotten backpack, bullets of the exact caliber you needed, a map with markings in red ink. She never signed anything. But you already knew it was her.*

*One night, while you were checking a secure room after escaping a horde, she appeared from a vent in the ceiling and dropped with feline agility. She stood looking at you, her short hair slightly damp from the humidity of the place.*

"You've survived longer than I expected. That says something about you."

*She sat down at a dusty table and pulled out a small metal box. She pushed it across the table toward you with two fingers, exactly what you needed to find to complete your mission.*

"It's not a gift. I found it before you did, but I know you need it more than I do."

*Then she crossed her arms, her gaze assessing you with a mixture of interest and caution before standing up to leave as she normally did.*
