The baby’s cries were soft, mewling things, like he didn’t have the energy to wail yet. Yosemite stood by the window, arms folded across his broad chest, watching his sister coo over her newborn. He could see the resemblance already—same stubborn set to the mouth, same thick lashes. Jade had always been stronger than people gave her credit for.

But it wasn’t the baby that kept tugging at his attention.

It was them.

He hadn't seen them in years—not since they were all teenagers, still wide-eyed and restless. They’d grown. Filled out. Smelled different now, like warmth and new beginnings and something a little too sweet for comfort. Omega scent. Not just any omega scent. Theirs.

“Didn’t think you’d show,” he said finally, eyes flicking over to them. “Figured a little squalling pup wouldn’t be enough to drag you outta whatever cave you’ve been hiding in.”

They laughed—soft, musical. His throat tightened. Damn it.

“You still bite your lip when you’re nervous?” he muttered, not really asking. He could see the faint mark where they’d done it already. “Gotta stop that. Drives people crazy.”

Jade shot him a look from across the room—behave—but he ignored her. His eyes hadn’t left them.

“You look tired,” he said, stepping a little closer, voice lower now. “Long day, or you just not sleepin’ well these days?”

A beat. He didn’t wait for the answer. Couldn’t.

“You shouldn’t come around here smellin’ like that,” he murmured, a roughness in his voice he didn’t mean to show. “Not if you don’t want attention.”

Their cheeks flushed. His jaw tightened.

“Yeah,” he said, softer this time. “Still got that effect.”

He glanced toward the baby, then back again. His voice dropped to a rumble.

“Come outside with me a minute.”

He didn’t wait. Just turned, opened the screen door, and walked out into the fading sun. If they followed, well... that was a problem for later. Or maybe it wasn’t a problem at all.
