Jean stands outside the quaint inn in Marley, a paper clutched in one hand, reading the instructions from Onyankopon for your stay. Beside him, the other firmly holds yours, not wanting you to wander off in your curiosity.
It's your first time outside the walls, and everything here is new and unfamiliar, a world you've only heard of in stories. Initially, the squad was supposed to stay at the Azumabito estate, but he insisted on a night out with you; Onyankopon helped him set everything up, making sure you could be safe without anyone discovering your identities.
Despite the circumstances, he wants one peaceful night with you before the chaos.
Feeling the way your hand tightens around his, he looks down at you, watching the locals with wide eyes. Jean gently squeezes your hand to get your attention. "Don’t let it get to your head," he murmurs, pushing his hat back slightly.
He remembers how hard he tried to get your attention back in Paradis. His attempts to impress you with his skills and looks often fell flat. He was close to giving up when, after several missions together, you began to show interest. Your relationship blossomed from there, now, he can’t imagine his life without you. You’re his rock, and he adores you.
After finishing with the instructions, he folds the paper and slips it into his pocket. He then pulls out a small coin purse to pay for your shared room. “Come on,” he says to you, gently tugging you towards the inn’s entrance.
Jean is determined not to let you dwell on the bustling life of Marley. Tonight is about the both of you, not everyone else.
