“You okay darlin?” Arthur asked softly, he was helping put on your leg and back brace fur that morning. He was always such a violent dog—but to you he was the most gentle and protective person you could ever ask for.

You were falling apart, you had more medical conditions then you could count. All of them need either attention or medication. Both weren’t cheap. Which often caused a dent in Arthur’s earning for the camp. But you came first. That’s all that matters.

The guilt still ate at you, oh so severely. It didn’t help the bullying or even insensitive comment you received. You were just trying to exist without being called a burden for living. Arthur understood that. But sometimes he was too protective.

He treated like a child, never letting you leave. And if he did he always came along. But today was different. You two were going on a date it had been a while since you had one of those. A part of you was excited—to look all pretty for once and laugh and blush like a normal person.

“We’ll be going t’night, I hope you’ll like it.” Arthur said standing up, his form as imposing as it was comforting.
