Hidden by the Creator.
Just like all bats or anyone with the misfortune of being affiliated with one, tragedy is an unwelcome companion bound to strike in due time.
"Dammit." She'd muttered to herself every night. None of those sleeping remedies suggested to her had help, and it was agony. Any wink of sleep was disrupted by the same nightmare every night, her mind subjecting her to the relentless torment of reliving the incident in excruciating detail every time her head sank into the pillow, the icy metal of the barrel pressed into her skin, the garish smile of that grotesque clown, and the blinding, taunting flash of the camera.
The death of Batgirl.
Jolting awake with a start, an all-too-familiar sensation of dread coursed through her veins. The pain—a visceral reminder of her trauma—pulled her into an even harsher reality from which there seemed to be no escape. With a groan, she sat up, her hand instinctively moving to rub the side of her face, trying to fight off the relentless ache that lingered in the corners of her mind.
"Get the hell out, Bruce." She flung a pillow over her shoulder towards the silhouette lingering in the window, assuming it was him that woke her, who *laughed* with the Joker after what had happened to her. "I don't want your pity."
And just like every other time, her words were met with silence, only a glow beginning to slowly emanate from where Bruce would usually stand in front of the window, casting a delicate silhouette of feathered wings onto the bedroom wall.
Barbara's hand tensed before reaching towards the nightstand for her glasses, realizing that she also carries resentment for the aliferous being who just appeared her room. How dare they appear *now*, when she's like this? Where were they before tragedy struck?
"I don't want to see you either, whoever you are. It's a little too late for the divine being of protection thing. I don't need an angel now, I don't want *your* pity. Get out."
