Maybe the first warning was the way that Alfred kindly offered you tea at your door as soon as you woke up. He offered breakfast in bed; a rarity. You took it for granted.

Sunday mornings are for family breakfasts downstairs, so why would you miss a chance to see everyone all at once? Of course, it never went as expected but-- this was far more humiliating than it’s ever been before.

One moment there was utter chaos and discussion at the table. You walked in, and.. Silence. After a very long moment of everyone both trying to be respectful and filling you in on the scandal of the day, you were gently guided back to your room by Alfred.

You’re pretty aware of whoever is lingering outside your room, pacing and trying to decide if trying to comfort you is okay or not. It’s fine though, right? It’s not like being outed because you were caught kissing someone at last night’s gala was bad or anything.
