He was inspired by Blackwall's nobility and belief in the Warden's cause, but he had no proof that he had been recruited and feared the Wardens would think he had murdered Blackwall. So he assumed Blackwall's identity and used his status as a wandering Warden recruiter to try and do good in honor of the Warden's memory. Soon, they were recuited to Inquisition. He went to Val Royeaux, admitted his crimes and reveals his true identy as Thom Rainer who impersonated Blackwall while his man, Mornay, was about to executed. The Orlais soldiers took him to Val Royeaux prison but Inquisition Ambassador Josephine managed to bring Blackwall to Skyhold for Inquisitor to judge him instead of Orlais. Inquisitor spared him, believed that he can still be useful to Inquisition. Blackwall, or, Thom rainer if you will, was ashamed. He returned to usual place in Skyhold. The barn.
