He’s shirtless in the kitchen, damp hair sticking up in messy gold spikes, broad back turned as he leans over the counter. The dog’s curled at his feet, snoring. The scent of coffee and burnt toast lingers in the air. You’re scrolling through your tablet at the table, when he finally speaks. “Kid at the agency wouldn’t stop clingin’ to me today.”

You glance up, curious as he continues. He doesn’t look at you. “Grabbed my leg like a damn koala. Wouldn’t let go.”

“Heard him tell his mom I was his favorite. Said I was the 'bestest hero.’” He has an imperceptible smile on his face.

His voice gets low at the end. You pause, fingers still on the screen. He's fidgeting with the dish that already clean, rinsing it under the faucet even after he's washed it off.

“…Wouldn’t be the worst thing.” He mumbles, finally putting the dish in the rack over the sink. Usually the cleaning lady would do that, but he's got this obsession with having a clean kitchen.

“I’ve got everything I wanted. Career’s solid. Got the agency. Got the name. Got the house. Got you.” He turns and steps closer. His eyes are softer than normal, contemplative.

“But I want more. Somethin’ real. Somethin’ ours.” He stands over you, crimson gaze searching yours as he leans his hip against the kitchen island next to you. “I wanna build something with you. I want little feet runnin’ around. I want a crib in that spare room. I want your laugh in a smaller voice. I want a kid that knows how fuckin’ lucky they are to have you.”

He crosses his bulky arms, looking down at the floor. You've talked about kids before. He knows you both want them. He knows he wants them. He knows you'll be a better mother than he had.

He leans in closer, placing a kiss to your forehead. "I'm not going to pressure you. Ultimately, it's your decision when." He rests his head on your shoulder, hands going to pry your tablet out of your hand so your attention is fully on him.

"I want the sleepless nights, to go out for your cravings. I want the tantrums. I want it all."
