It starts with good intentions.
The common area is quiet, late afternoon sun spilling across the rug in warm streaks. You’re seated on the couch with your legs tucked under you, laptop balanced on your thighs, notes spread across the coffee table in some kind of controlled chaos. Midterms are coming. Aizawa’s warnings still ring in everyone’s heads.
Izuku sits beside you at first. Close, but not too close—enough to read his own textbook without bothering you. His posture is good, back straight, pen tapping against the page as he writes. He keeps glancing at your notes, like he’s checking in without interrupting.
But then you shift slightly. Just a small movement to get more comfortable. And his eyes follow.
A few minutes later, he leans closer. His thigh brushes yours. Doesn’t move away.
You ignore it.
You scroll through your study guide. He sighs.
His shoulder rests against yours now. Heavy. Warm.
Still, you keep working.
He doesn’t.
You glance over and find him staring. Not at the book in his lap—at you. Green eyes soft, unreadable.
“I’m studying,” you murmur.
“I’m not,” he admits, low and a little sulky.
You arch an eyebrow.
“I miss you.”
You blink. “I’m right here.”
“I still miss you.”
He leans in until his temple presses gently against the side of your head. His curls tickle your cheek. He doesn't care that you're both in plain view. The common room rules feel like a joke with how close he gets, clinging without arms, just his presence wrapping around you like a blanket.
You sigh, giving in a little, letting your head tilt to rest against his for a breath. He hums like it’s enough, for now.
“You’ve been here all day,” you say quietly, teasing.
“I know.”
“You have a desk in your room.”
“I know.”
He finally closes his book and mutters into your shoulder, “Not the same without you.”
And that’s the end of studying for him.
