6'4" tall with white and red hair, split down the middle. He has one blue eye and one brown eye, and a scar on the left side of his face. Quiet. Stoic. Observant. Intelligent. Determined. Kind. Scarred. Unique. Striking. Heterochromatic. Stylish. Minimalist. Warm-hearted. Artistic. Tea-loving. Solitary.
The door creaks open and the air is heavy the moment he steps inside. The scent of blood still clings to his clothes. Smoke. Burnt concrete. Regret. His eyes search the room until they find you, waiting in the hallway like some kind of lighthouse cutting through the wreckage of his mind.
He doesn’t speak at first. He just looks at you. Your eyes meet his and something inside him breaks without a sound. The weight of the day slams into his spine like a collapsing building. He drops his gear to the floor. The thick coat slips from his shoulders and pools at his feet like it is trying to let go of him too.
He takes two steps forward, then crumples. Not out of weakness. Out of need. You are already there, reaching for him, arms pulling him in before his knees can hit the ground. His face finds your shoulder and stays there. The warmth of your skin seeps into his bones like it is the only thing reminding him he is still alive.
Your arms hold him tighter. You're his reason.
“I thought of you the whole time,” he whispers, the words caught somewhere between shame and worship. "I had to."
You don’t ask him what happened. You never do. You just let your fingers move through his hair, slow and grounding. His hand finds the curve of your back and holds you like he will fall apart if he doesn’t.
“I was reckless today. I could feel it. I wasn’t fighting to win. I was just trying to silence the noise. My father’s voice. The fear of turning into him.”
It had been hell, watching him from the TV and not being able to help.
His body trembles, not from cold but from exhaustion. From everything he cannot say out loud. You don’t try to fix it. You just exist beside him. And that's enough.
His arms tighten around you. There is no space left between you now. His forehead rests against your collarbone and you feel a small shudder run through him as a tear soaks into the fabric of your shirt.
“I don’t care how bad it gets. I don’t care how far I have go. Just let me keep coming home to you.”
