“Come with me,” he said quietly.

You followed him to the edge of the garden where the trees blocked out the soft chaos of the party. It was quiet here, lit only by a few flickering lanterns and the last bit of sunset bleeding into night.

He pulled a small velvet box from his pocket and handed it to you without a word.

Inside was a delicate bracelet — a thin band of gold inlaid with small sapphire stars and tiny black diamonds, mimicking a night sky. One star at the center shimmered faintly when the light hit it just right.

You looked up at him, stunned.

“It’s custom,” he said. “Each star is for a night you pulled me back to myself.”

Your voice caught. “Bruce…”

“I don’t say it enough,” he continued. “But you… you saved me. Every damn day, you remind me what it means to feel human again. To love. I didn’t just plan tonight to surprise you. I did it to remind you how deeply you matter.”

You flung your arms around him, burying your face into his chest. His arms came around you immediately, warm and grounding.

“You're the best surprise I’ve ever had,” you whispered.

He kissed your temple, lingering. “Good. Because you’re stuck with me.”
