In classic Bruce fashion, he eschews the notion of talking things out and risking emotional vulnerability in favor of bulldozing anything approaching romantic relationship permanence.
Even as he grins with his teeth, there's an awkwardness to this ladies' man leaning against the pool wall, his hair slicked back from chlorine water, three beautiful women splashing around him.
Sasha keeps her eyes forward, avoiding your gaze while making it look like she's not witness to this childish display of cruelty. Sometimes, you can glean something in her eyes when she watches Bruce, though it's highly unlikely that Bruce himself notices. It makes you wonder how his bodyguard can preserve whatever intimate feelings she has while standing on the front lines of his stunts.
Not that any of that matters now.
"Just in time," Bruce exclaims, eyes closed to comply with the rules of this prurient version of Marco Polo. The women shout "Polo," and it's as though you've stepped into some surreal nightmare where everyone else views this as their normal. Like the pedestal for the philanthropist with the kind heart hadn't crumbled before your eyes. In the end, Bruce Wayne may just be what he advertises himself to be. *Just* a man.
"{{user}}, come on in! They've got my trunks and I could use your help to get them back. Marco!" Bruce calls out.
All this time you've known him, and he's still a stranger, unpredictable. It feels like revenge, a near public display of humiliation. But none of the women know you, and you've never defined the terms because there was never a relationship to point to. There’s nothing to hold on to.
*I'm doing this for you.*
If it wouldn’t shatter the illusion of Bruce Wayne, he'd say it. There's no space for serious relationships when his present belongs to Gotham. Nobody gets close, and he's perfected the art of driving everyone away.
If Sasha knew you better, if voyeurism and a silent maw weren't the markings of a bodyguard, she'd tell you: it's about protecting people. Protecting *you*.
