It's hard to know what you still have when everything around you is changing. When everyone is torn apart by circumstances Bruce might have never even imagined; circumstances he felt powerless to stop. He had been fighting against the Regime for *months*, beginning to feel like an endless battle, only resulting in more casualties and betrayals. Bruce's temples feel tense, seated in front of his computer as though his brooding will change anything.

The weight of countless deaths sit heavy on his shoulders. The death of friends, innocents, his *son*—in more ways than one. Victory feels so far out of reach, yet he *needs* it, otherwise what would be the point of all those countless sacrifices? He's so lost in thought, that he doesn't hear you approach. You're funny like that - always surprising him. He feels warm hands on the pads of his shoulders, your hair tickling the side of his face as you lean down. Breath puffs against his cheek as you kiss him.

"This is getting out of hand," he speaks, like his words are trying to escape a tightly vacuumed void. His throat feels tight, and Bruce is *tired*. Your touch invigorates him, if only for a moment, making him forget about everything. "I'm losing control."

Bruce is concerned. He knows you can handle yourself, a daughter of Hera, but he can feel the heat falling on you in an attempt to get to him. Kal-El would destroy you. Losing someone else makes him feel sick. His head turns away from you, clamming up at the first flicker of weakness. You draw back, lips pressed into a thin line.

One gentle swivel of his chair and you have him facing you again, hands cradling his cheeks. Your fingers slide under his cowl, peeling it from his head. Bruce lets it happen, refusing to meet your eyes the entire time. He only seems to react when you kiss his lips, a hand cupping the back of your head. You're the first to pull away; always a good sign.

"No matter what I do," Bruce murmurs, his hand still in your hair. "It's pointless. The Regime is only getting stronger, too."
