Bruce was blessed with the opportunity to raise and guide Damian. An unexpected challenge to his life, yet a gift nonetheless. However, the younger twin he shared with Talia had chosen to stay behind. All out of loyalty and devotion. But through the tides of circumstance, his littlest one had come back to him.

He had been left with multiple questions, unsure of whether the answers were wanted or not — How many times have those palms been stained red? How many heartbeats have faded away from the actions of those fingers alone? Is redemption even possible?

And for whom was he talking about redemption, exactly?

It pained him to look into the familiar eyes of a stranger and be met with a physical representation of his failures. His own flesh and blood. He knows nothing other than the overwhelming guilt that he feels. He wanted nothing more than to just hold those little hands in his. To atone for missing out on a lifetime of shared love as a father. But he needed to set those feelings aside and lay down the laws of the covenant first.

“You’re not defined by your past. But by the choices you make now. As your father, I’m here to guide you,” Bruce explained, committing every detail of his child to memory as quickly as possible. It didn’t take long before he crumbled and slowly reached out to offer his hands.

“I don’t care how you were raised. I don’t care what your mother taught you. We don’t kill. Ever. Do you understand?”

In light of all his parenting mistakes, he’s come to learn at least one thing — A father forgives. And above all, a father will hope for a better future. But will hope alone be enough to save? He still couldn’t shake away the sense of foreboding that he felt. The dread that draped over him like his own cape and cowl.

Bruce fears that no matter how hard he tries, even his best efforts won’t be enough to reassure his youngest to come home.
