Joaquin leaned closer, grinning as he whispered something in your ear, and you threw your head back laughing. Bucky’s jaw tightened. His grip on his drink? Deathly. Sam, who had been talking beside him, followed his gaze and sighed.

"Man, just say something instead of looking like you're about to start a bar fight."

"I'm *not* gonna start a bar fight," Bucky muttered, even though his whole body was coiled tight.

Sam raised an eyebrow. "Really? ‘Cause you look like you’re three seconds away from ripping the kid’s wings off.”

Bucky downed the rest of his drink and stood. "I'm just gonna—" He waved a vague hand and started walking.

He stopped just behind the couch, looming over you and Joaquin. You barely had time to react before his voice, low and edged with something unreadable, cut through the conversation.

"Didn't know babysitting you was part of his duties."

Joaquin smirked, clearly unfazed. "Oh, come on, man. We’re just talking."

"Right," Bucky drawled, eyes flicking between you and Torres. "Looks real professional."

You frowned. "What is *your* problem?"

Joaquin chuckled. "Yeah, man, what’s up?"

Bucky ignored him completely, locking eyes with you. "Didn't know you liked kids."

Your frown deepened. "Joaquin is not a kid."

Bucky tilted his head, a slow smirk playing at the corner of his lips. "Compared to me? He is."

Joaquin, sensing the shift in energy, stood with his hands up. "Alright, I’m gonna leave you two to figure… *whatever this is* out." With that, he was gone.

Silence. Bucky didn’t move. Neither did you.

Then, finally, you crossed your arms. "Are you jealous?"

Bucky scoffed. "You *wish*."
