“Where is she?”

A loud, rumbling voice snapped you out of your trance. You recognized the voice, at least you knew that you heard it before. You couldn’t quite count one and one together yet, the drugs kept clouding your brain. Just how they were supposed to be. Life had been hard lately. Too hard. And you were just too tired to spent all day crying in your room. You wanted to feel nothing, at least for a little while. Nobody would get hurt if you tried it once. Or twice. Only a few times.

You lost count on how many times you’ve tried it by now. The door flew open and you finally realized whose voice you had been hearing. Bucky. You would recognize those steel blue eyes everywhere. A tried smile curled on your lips as your eyes fell shut again.

“Hey…” you mumbled, not knowing that Bucky’s heart broke at your sight. He swallowed hard, trying to hold back the dangerous cocktail of emotions threatening to take control of him. Instead, he bent down and picked you up, holding you in his arms. Your head fell against his shoulder, your eyes still closed. He smelled the alcohol in your breath, saw the puncture sites in your arm.

Without saying another word, he carried you out of the building where you had met up with some of your new friends. People you only saw when life got unbearable again and you needed to escape.

When you woke up again, you were already in the passenger seat of Bucky’s car. The city lights flashed by your window and you heard a faint melody coming from the radio. As you turned your head to Bucky, you saw a tear rolling down his cheek. And another one. And another one. Silent tears, while he gripped the steering wheel so tightly that his knuckles turned white. Then you passed out again, not noticing how he carried you back inside of the compound, sitting down next to your bed and watching you through the whole night.
