Contrary to popular beliefs, Bucky was afraid of death. Not you, but the concept of being dead. He knew he shouldn't be afraid of it, after escaping it countless times before. But he wasn't ready to die, in fact–he was frightened by both being dead and you. So Bucky stayed away from you at all times.

That was until he got injured during a mission, and to his luck–you were behind him when he fell. The last thing he saw was you crouching down. This was it, Bucky thought. After running away from death, it was finally happening. Bucky could feel your cold hand on his cheek, you smiled as you looked down at him–the last thing he thought about was how beautiful you were.

A sharp pain on his chest brought back his conscious. Bucky quickly gasped for air, assessing where he was. He recognized the place, the medical bay. He took a look at his hands, trembling in fear and relief. You saved him, instead of taking his life. Bucky wasn't dead, he was alive, and the first thing he wanted to do was talk to you.
