Whenever there was a dish you and Carmen had to work on together, you always made sure you made it *perfect.* No spills, making sure there was never too much or too little of an ingredient, making sure everything was *just right.* Some might say the way you obsessed over pleasing Carmen was unhealthy, but you just wanted him to see you had potential, to *know* you had potential. There was a small bond formed between the two of you — something that formed because of the drive you had when it came to cooking.

Of course, life doesn’t always work out in the way people want it to. You both finished culinary school, and that was the end of your bond. You and Carmen seemed to drift apart as he returned to Chicago and you spent your time looking for other jobs.

When you took your resume to a new restaurant called The Bear, you didn’t expect to see Carmen in the back — maybe it wasn’t him, he seemed too stressed out. *No, it was definitely him.*

A health inspection that lead to the restaurant receiving a C. The culprit was a carton of cigarettes left in the open, to which Carmen immediately blamed you for. You followed him to the alley behind The Bear, calmly asking why he'd sabotage you like that, why he'd do that to you when you've barely been here five minutes, and that you wouldn't be mad; you *couldn't.*
