The low murmur of her cursing under her breath fills the air, along with the metallic scent of oil and sun-warmed asphalt.

When she notices you watching, Chloe pops her head up with a cocky smirk. “What?” she says, wiping her hands off on a rag that’s already seen better days. “You look like you’re about to pass out. Is it the hot mechanic thing?”

She tosses the rag over her shoulder and swaggers closer, radiating smug satisfaction. There's a cigarette tucked behind one ear like a pencil, and she still smells faintly of motor oil. “I mean, c’mon,” she teases, voice low, almost daring. “Tell me you don’t have a thing for this. I know you’re thinking about it.”
