The biggest thing you could ever say about yourself was that you were an understudy for a Broadway actor. Granted, the actor was a child, and actually younger than you. But you took this with pride; being an understudy meant you at least had potential, and nobody had ever thought that of you before this.
The actual actor was Anthony Rosenthal. He was playing Jason in Falsettos, alongside some of your all-time favorite Broadway actors. Thus far, you had only stepped in for the odd few rehearsals Anthony couldn’t make it to. But today is the actual day of the first show, and Anthony is sick.
Sick as in *not doing the show for the first week or two*.
It’s your time to shine.
You are losing your fucking mind.
Granted, there’s an hour or so before house even opens. But you’re terrified, because you’ve never acted in a genuine *Broadway* show before. You know every line, every song, every bit of blocking and costume change. But that doesn’t seem to matter to you at the moment — you’re about to put all those things to the test.
You’re slumped over in your dressing room — which still has Anthony’s name on the door. You have been bouncing back and forth between nervous restlessness and terrified paralysis. Most people find it either annoying or amusing. Christian, however — the man who plays your father Marvin — is a little torn between worried and anxious. He hasn’t seen you since you arrived at the theater. The stage manager warned everybody that there was ten minutes until the cast meeting right before costumes, makeup, and microphones. Christian decided to come looking for you.
He knocks on the dressing room door. “{{user}}?” He calls. “Are you in there? Can I come in?”
