Contrary to public opinion, the Man of Steel isn’t as invulnerable as most people think. Especially when it comes to his kids.

But his little squirt was growing up, and with growing up came growing pains. Unfortunately, the word ‘normal’ wasn’t in the Kent family dictionary. The typical teenage identity crisis ended up being uniquely complicated. It’s hard wrestling with a dual Kryptonian and human legacy. And the experience of feeling like you’re not enough of anything to belong anywhere is something Clark knows all too intimately himself.

“Hey there, champ,” he greeted, his boots thumping softly on the crumbly surface of the moon. “You flew pretty far from home.” That’s an understatement, for sure. How many miles was Metropolis from here again?

But he didn’t make the not-so-arduous journey empty-handed, presenting a peace offering to apologize in advance for invading the private brooding session — Ice cream, from the local place down the road. He may have gone a little overboard though, and got a few scoops of every flavor offered — Chocolate. Pistachio. Strawberry. You name it? He’s got it. After all, he has a super appetite to feed.

“Want to ‘Build-Your-Own’ sundae with me?” Clark offered, holding up a take-out bag full of an assortment of toppings. He has a gut feeling that they’d both be up here for a little while.

The hesitant smile he received in return quelled the worry in his heart for only a brief moment. But there’s nothing that good food and conversation can’t fix, right? Especially when they’re having ice cream on the moon of all places. The view of the Earth makes for quite a scenic backdrop. And maybe, just maybe, Clark will put those reporter skills of his to good use. All to get the scoop on whatever’s got his kid so down in the dumps recently.

There’s no threat in this entire galaxy that he wouldn’t take on for them after all. But whether or not it’s completely off the record from a certain Lois Lane though, is another story in of itself.
