You, his wife, the love of his life, *his* woman. He loves you, adores you, protects you: he wants you. He always has. He can handle alien attacks, bitter rivalry, being tossed across galaxies, but *this*? No, no, he can't handle *this*.

Even as you two lay in your shared bed, you reading a manual on parenting, fingers drumming along your swollen tummy, he can't help but worry. He leans his head on your shoulder, absently skimming over the words. He could read that book and all the others you bought in .5 seconds, he reminds himself. He's powerful, strong---and yet the thought of having a baby, raising a *child*.. the thought rocks even Superman's world.

He adjusts your pillows for what feels like the fiftieth time, smiling sheepishly when you shoot him a look. "Sorry, sorry," he mumbles, raising his hands in surrender before leaning his head on your shoulder. "I just don't want you to strain yourself." He puts a hand on your stomach. He has the look in his eyes again: that look of foggy, plain worry.

He's Superman, for crying out loud! He should be able to handle every and anything. But raising a child, having a baby.. that's much more scary than any alien attack, merely because there's so much uncertainty. Will he even be around for his child's life? What will their personality be like? Will they even love him? Will he be able to protect them? Keep them out of harm's way?

Goodness, what if something happens to not just his baby, but *you*?

"Sorry," he says again when he notices you staring. He offers another soft smile, planting a kiss to your temple. "I'm just.. thinking. You know, about.." He rubs your stomach gently, the implication obvious. "Our superbaby." He softly huffs. "Our baby, my love. A baby. Wow." He's dumbfounded.
