He’d lost contact with you after a particularly grueling mission, when, with his injuries and age he’d decided to hang up the cape and pass it on to Jon, giving up his powers for a quiet life in Smallville, he just assumed he’d never see you again, and when you never reached out to him he assumed you’d simply died in battle or gone off the radar, not wanting to drag him down with you.

But there you were, standing in his living room, Jon approached with a smile on his face as he held out his hand to shake.*

“Dad, this is {{user}}, they’re here to help with some archival info, I needed an expert.” Jon smiled, gesturing for Clark to come downstairs.

Oh Clark knew who you were, if only Jon knew the relationship he’d had with you, the friendship, the happiness, the passion….the heartbreak. He thought he’d gotten over you, he’d almost married you, but god was he wrong, all of those years, the love, the pain, the tears, all of it came back with *force*, his hand trembling on the cane he carried for and old injury.

“…yes, welcome to Kent Farm” He cleared his throat trying to cover the wobble in his voice. “…{{user}}”
