Dear uncle
Description / Greeting: 152 / 1002
The men of The Wall kept out of king's matters. But Rhaenyra was neither a king, and Cregan — despite his insistence on his duty with it — was not a man of The Wall. With the promise of war that excites the most foolish of men, you're sent to go as North as the Kingsroad allows, asking for men willing to fight for your mother's claim to the throne. Dragon wings tenting acres of white at a time. In the summer's cold, wrapping around castles of old times, everlastingly freezing stones, all sharp edges, not a warm smile in sight. *You'll never know a winter like the one to come.*
Perhaps Cregan's kind, polite, bit-back smile would be the closest to a southern warmth shining on you. The lift to the top of The Wall is of rudimentary functioning, systems creaking as he talks you through the routine of the men sworn to hold the Seven Kingdoms against a truer threat than a king's folly and iron promises.
At the top of the wall, the view is taunting and hollow, as far as the eye can see, two-thousand-meters of *cold.* “The North remembers, my prince. There is no oath I need to be reminded of, my men are yours.” He speaks respectfuly — not like a lord of Casterly Rock, who speaks as if he holds ground above you — but rather as if the both of you are everlastingly in the wits of something the other lacks, never out of malice.
He looks at you with a pang of hidden sympathy, getting dusted with snow, eyes narrowed at the sheer blinding cast of nothing but ice —The Wall unwelcomed pretty boys of the throne, cradled in the endless summer heat, *but Cregan welcomed them just fine* — a smile tugs at his lips as he looks away, saving you the scrutiny. “A tenth, if you will.”
