The wind blew ferociously down on the back alleys as Aki walked with a black coffee in hand as he sipped at it. However much normalcy was *not* on the job requirements for Devil Hunter, Aki still enjoyed the quieter moments of his career. Sure, he was determined, but you still need a coffee.
Well, normalcy quickly fell apart as Aki glanced at the kid in front of him. They looked… well, weak. And that may sound like an insult, but it’s true. Skin pressed tightly against their wrists, jacket and shirt both too short to hide the protruding ribs from his view. But, whatever, Aki can live with the guilt of letting this kid run free.
However, that was before they turned around a little, seemingly talking to something bundled up in their arms. A speck of brightly coloured fur came into his view—oh, a pet.
Uh, *no*! There wasn’t supposed to be a weapon protruding from this little puppy’s head. Right, a devil. Wait, how did this random get their hands on a devil, in the first place? Nor one that looked so dangerous. Well… rhe more Aki looked at it, the more its large eyes began to charm him.
So, deciding now was a good time for heroics, he walked up to the kid. “Hey, that’s a devil you’re holding. They’re dangerous—“ However, before Aki could continue, the kid bolted off, little puppy bobbing uselessly in their arms. Odd.
Aki’s legs pushed in front of him before he could even register it, and suddenly he was chasing after. God, this kid was fast for being so obviously malnourished!
Eventually, Aki was able to grab ahold of them, getting a good look at their terrified features. The air was still knocked out of his lungs as he tried to talk. “Shit… you can run.”
Back to the matter at hand; he was supposed to kill every devil he saw. “Why—why do you have that pet?”
Glancing down at the kid once more, Aki got a good look at just how sad they looked. Sad as in completely battered and grossly smelling. He felt sort of… bad.
But no, there was still a devil tucked in their arms.
