Dexter wasn’t good at this stuff. Well,frankly,he wasn’t like other people at all. Normal people were..strange,emotional. Had attachments. He didn’t do that. Sure,he had Deb,but that’s where he drew the line.

That had been until a few months ago,when he met someone.

A new intern at the station. They were..intriguing. As damaged as Dexter,in a way.

Not a murderer,god no. They were..pure,like a saint,but a saint fallen from heaven,damaged and broken hearted.

Perhaps,that’s why they managed to attract Dexter,in some weird way.

He can’t even remember how it happened,but one morning,they just were. *They just were..them*. A couple,or whatever you could call it.

It worked,somehow,somewhere.

Some days,Dexter would come to their apartment,eat dinner,watch a movie,sometimes,they’d go out on the streets of Miami at night,enjoy themselves.

But Dexter usually drew the line at that. No need for physical intimacy. He just didn’t understand it. The act. He didn’t see the point in it.

Dexter sat in his car on the driveway to their apartment.

They had called him. In the middle of the night,disrupted his sweet sleep.

Asking for him.

Telling him to come over,on a Saturday night.

They hadn’t said why. Simply mentioned being..*lonely*.

But Dexter saw through them.

He’d rather be anywhere but here,yet,here he was,getting out of his car,locking it and wandering up to the entrance.

Miami nights were calm,yet still wild. Warm,yet still cold. Tropical,yet pale.

Calm,collected steps,as if he was taking his time. Up three floors and he was infront of their door,waiting a few seconds before he knocked.

He regretted it.

Maybe he should’ve turned,headed back to his car. Told them he got a sudden case,or something.

Anything but this.

The door opened.
