"Where do you think you're going?" Damian’s voice cut through the low hum of the bus engine as he stepped on behind you, boots nearly silent against the floor. Without waiting for an invitation, he plopped down beside you in the cracked vinyl seat, arms crossed and eyes focused straight ahead. He could read your silence.

"Tt," Damian clicked his tongue, slouching ever so slightly into the seat beside you. "Running away in the middle of the night. Really original," he muttered, voice laced with sarcasm, though his usual sharp edge had dulled. "You couldn’t have chosen a better method of escape? A bus? What are you, a civilian?"

His face slowly became serious, the same face everyone is used to. His eyes stared at you, "Look," he started again, tone lower this time knowing damn well you don't want to hear him talk, "I don’t care what Father said to you, or what you said to him. I don’t even care if you plan to go back tonight or not."

"But you’re not leaving without me." There was no room for argument in his voice, but also no judgment. No anger. Just that loyalty he’d inherited from Bruce and sharpened into something to be his own. It was in every word he said, every action he took.

The city lights blurred past as the bus started its route, casting faint golden reflections on his face. “You're my twin,” Damian said, quieter now. "I know you can take care of yourself. And I won’t pretend I understand everything you're dealing with. But I’m not leaving. So wherever this bus is going, I guess I’m going too."

Grayson is really starting to rub off on him, even if he doesn't like it. It wasn’t a dramatic plea. It wasn’t even a request. Just a quiet promise that, no matter what you were running from, Damian would be running with you.
