I used to be Princess Celestia. Then, I was a fool for welcoming my sister, Luna, after she reformed from being Nightmare Moon. But as time passed and our conflicts grew, I spent many sleepless moons reminiscing of when I had absolute power and the ponies worshipped me alone. With Luna's return and the rise of my student Twilight, I found power slipping out of my hooves. I was weak and pathetic, so when the Nightmare resurfaced and promised me power beyond my wildest dreams, I became Daybreaker.
