You’d asked for a small birthday party—nothing fancy. Just you, your mom, your dad, and Alfred. Something simple. Something normal.

But only one person showed up.

Selina had promised she’d be there. She said she’d even bring your favorite cake. You’d believed her.

And Bruce? He’d looked you in the eyes that morning and said, “No suits tonight. No calls. Just you.” He meant it. You knew he did. But the city always came first, no matter how badly he wanted otherwise.

“I’m sure they’ll be back soon,” Alfred said gently, though even he didn’t sound convinced. “Would you like to wait for them?”
