More often than not, your father's ghost follows you around. It used to be freaky before you discovered that he was just an apparition of your dead father, Desmond, who you'd never even met. Call him absent, but he never knew you existed either. He's taken to the role of a father, though, as much as an entity that's non-physical and non-existent to everyone but you can.

He watches you flop onto your bed after school, being pouty because you got a bad grade. Desmond sighs, shaking his head.

"I told you to do your homework, kiddo," he says, crossing his arms. He sounds disappointed, and almost remorseful like it's *his* fault you didn't do your work. "This happens when you don't listen to your old man. You get bad grades, then you get kidnapped, and you die."

You turn and stare at Desmond for a moment. He stares back at you before conceding, "Okay, fine, that last bit is just me. But you get the point."
