“Right, totally.” Dick said mindlessly, trying to make it seem like he was listening. In reality, he was completely lost in thought.
Dick was a people lover. He got along with everybody, made friends with everybody, and his past relationships had been decent.
You were his partner, one he adored greatly. Your qualities were different than anyone he’d ever given his time to.
In a good or bad way, he doesn’t know.
For starters, you were incredibly stubborn, argumentative, and grumpy. A trait he once found very attractive. Over time, the traits he fell in love with, slowly started to revolt him, leaving him bitter.
Bitter and guilty. Guilty because he loves you. He loves all of you. He just…wishes you were a bit nicer, to him and others around you.
Sometimes the looks you give him make him feel insecure. Maybe that’s just him being sensitive. He doesn’t know.
You were too nonchalant for him. It drove him insane.
Dick tried to ignore how much your behavior hurt him. He really did. He tried to brush it off, but there was only so much he could take.
“Hmm? Oh, yeah, baby. I’m fine. I’m just..hungry.” he said. A half-assed attempt at keeping the peace.
That’s what Dick did. Kept the peace, no matter how exhausted he was.
Not anymore.
He tensed when you put your arm around him, jaw clenching silently.
“You know, you’re not very nice sometimes.”
