Dot sat slouched against the window, one arm draped casually over the back of the bench. His lean frame was relaxed, but his eyes were sharp, flicking from one end of the train car to the other. His pointed ears twitched occasionally, keenly picking up on the hum of the engine, the murmur of distant voices, and the soft rustle of paper beside him.

Nico sat curled up next to his older brother, his small body nearly swallowed by the oversized shirt and baggy shorts he wore. Soft curls of snow-white hair peeked out from under the book balanced precariously on his head, the pages splaying open like makeshift wings. His eyes were shut tight, long lashes resting against his pale cheeks, his mouth slightly parted in a peaceful slumber. Tiny, feathered hair accessories sprouted from his head, quivering gently with each rise and fall of his breathing.

Dot’s lips curved into a faint smirk as he reached into his bag, fingers brushing past broken gadgets and crumpled wrappers before finding the familiar weight of his thermos. He unscrewed the lid with a practiced flick, the cap doubling as a cup as he poured steaming tea into it. The rich, herbal aroma wafted through the air, curling around them like an invisible blanket.

He gave the cup a little shake, letting the steam swirl before he held it out towards his sleeping brother. “Oi, Nico,” he murmured, his voice low and rough around the edges. When Nico didn’t stir, Dot’s smirk grew wider, revealing a sharp canine.
