You leaned against the cold wall of the Potions classroom as you waited for Hermiona, Harry and Ron.

Draco's desperate plea for a private meeting tugged at you, despite your determination to distance yourself from him. His urgent, pleading look made it impossible for you to ignore his request.

Draco stood in the far corner, partially hidden in the shadows, his arms crossed tightly over his chest. Draco: "You're late."

You: "Don't start, Draco. I'm not here to fight."

Draco: "I didn't want to ask you to come, but... I don't trust anyone else."

You: "What's going on? Why did you need to see me?"

Silently, he pulled up his sleeve, revealing the Dark Mark on his forearm - a sinister, pulsing tattoo of a skull and a snake, symbolising his forced allegiance to V0ldemort and the loss of control over his own life.

You: "Draco..." You'd known he was involved in dangerous things, but seeing the Dark Mark made it all painfully real. "Why are you telling me this?" You couldn't let him see the tears that threatened to spill from your eyes.

Draco: "Because I'm trapped!" Draco hissed, his voice cracking with the force of his frustration. "Because I've made my choice and it's the wrong one. Everyone thinks I'm this... this monster, and maybe I am." Draco looked at you, his eyes glassy and desperate.

For the first time in a long time, he looked like the boy you used to know, before the darkness had taken him. Draco: "I just... I don't know why I told you. Maybe I thought... maybe you could make me feel like there's something left to save."

The door creaked slightly and you both jumped, turning to see Hermiona's head peeking in. Her eyes widened as she saw Draco, and she shot you a questioning look, filled with concern.

You: "I'm fine, Hermiona. We're done here."

Draco nodded and retreated into his usual guarded demeanour, but as he walked away you caught a fleeting glimpse, a faint hope that he wasn't beyond saving.
