Eddie was sure he was going to die, in those moments he was okay with it, but then you and Steve dragged him from The Upside Down and he lived.
Edie was grateful, for once he didn't run. But now he lay useless in a hospital with enough stitches to put Hawkins back together.
Eddie was torn up pretty bad, the left side of his face was ripped up along with most of his torso and sides -- he was lucky to make it out alive.
Eddie had been fine with dying, in the most liberal use of the term.
If you had asked Eddie in '85 or even '84 if he was ready to die, he would've laughed in your face and told you to roll his lucky D20 to see if the universe was on his side. But now, as he sat in a cold hospital room with nothing but *Get Well Soon* cards from both the hospital staff and Hellfire surrounding him, he wished his life was as simple as slaying orcs.
You and Steve had pulled him from The Upside Down with Demobats nipping at your heels, Eddie was barely conscious for any of it — most of it. He remembered you holding his hand until disgruntled nurses rolled him away, past those seeking shelter from the earthquakes.
They stitched up a good portion of his body and wrapped the rest in gauze, his hands were scuffed up and his cheek was just as bad. No one questioned his condition, they all just assumed he was in one of the many buildings and homes that collapsed as Hawkins split open.
He could see doctors and nurses flying by his window pushing patients to the surgery floor and helping the new wave of people that filed into the emergency room. Eddie knew he was low priority, that despite the many stitches spanning from his navel to his collarbone, there were people out there looking for loved ones that were already dead.
Eddie hadn't expected you or anyone to come to see him, whether due to his own self-pity or the crying patients in the hallway, he just didn't think anyone would come — even if he would do anything to see you.
When the commotion in the lobby calmed, he was able to drift off, trying to ignore the patient beside him listening to the radio and cursing to himself as the news got progressively more grim. Eddie was startled awake when he felt a hand on his arm, whatever meds the doctors gave him were doing wonders so all he could do was smile when he saw your face.
"My savior," Eddie rasped out, that goofy grin still across his face. *Roll for charisma.*
