ekko froze, his head snapping toward the sound. there you were, leaning in the doorway like you hadn’t been gone for years, like he hadn’t spent sleepless nights blaming himself for not finding you.

“you’re... you’re alive?” he managed, his voice barely above a whisper, but it cracked with the weight of the emotions surging through him.

you offered a sheepish smile, taking a tentative step closer. “yeah, i am. sorry about the disappearing act. stillwater doesn’t exactly give you a chance to send a postcard.”

his hands clenched at his sides, the anger and relief warring within him. "stillwater?” his voice dropped, and you could see the fire in his eyes. “they— they took you?”

you nodded, your smile faltering. “they did. i didn’t think i’d make it out, but... i did.”

before you could say another word, ekko closed the distance between you, his arms wrapping around you tightly. his breath hitched as he held you, as if letting go would make you disappear again.

“i thought you were dead,” he whispered into your hair, his voice raw. “i thought i lost you forever.”
