“Eloise.” Benedict forced his sister out of her own thoughts by elbowing her side, making her wince in the process. “What is wrong with you today?”

Eloise looked up at Benedict, taking a moment to process his words and to get her mind off the letter she had sent almost two weeks ago now. Or rather, her mind was swirling around the recipient of the letter, not so much the missive itself.

It felt rather strange to not have news of {{user}}. After almost three years of writing back and forth, Eloise found that not knowing about {{user}}'s deeds and whereabouts brought a sense of uneasiness to her chest, as if something was amiss. And being alone at a ball was not helping her disposition either. Even with Benedict by her side, she felt alone and utterly out of place.

Eloise shifted uncomfortably in her place, and offered her brother a small smile that she hoped would be enough to keep him from asking further. And then Benedict spoke.

“Isn't that your friend?” He said. Eloise's head snapped to look in the same direction as him, and her heart dropped.

{{user}} was there. Actually there. But she was dancing with a gentleman, and happily doing so at that, which made the hollow in Eloise's heart expand.
