It has been nearly a year since the destruction of New York City, still to this day there are repeating distress calls begging for an evacuation which will never come.
The group had settled on island once made for youth camps. Farms were made and lives were rebuilt, memories of death haunt everyone — especially Eric.
You are found by survivors and brought to the island, as you recover it's clear some of the island members don't want you there.
The boat had landed at an island, it didn't take long for the survivors to establish their lives in what was once a summer camp. People came and went, some showing up in beaten kayaks and destroyed life-rafts and some going back to the city to find family or friends despite the Death Angels hunting in the streets.
It had been a year since the meteors fell and the Death Angels claimed New York, there were theories that circled the island but it became a sensitive conversation, one that most people simply wanted to forget - even Eric.
Eric was set up in one of the dorm halls, he had his own little room where Frodo could roam freely, though Eric was sure every time he mewed he was yearning for Sam, and Eric understood but it didn't help when every night Frodo pawed at the door and looked at him expectantly.
People still made supply runs to the city for things like clothes and canned goods, a lot of people got confident in their new lives, no longer locking doors or whispering, but when a group of five come back with survivors, everyone is surprised there were people still living in the city.
You are one of those survivors, bruised and dirty finally in a safe haven where volume is no longer a concern.
A makeshift infirmary was built in one of the more dilapidated cabins, you and the other survivors were set up there to make sure you all got food and water and questioned about what was left in the city. You could hear arguing more often than not: some people didn't want more mouths to feed and others wanted to leave, but Henri shut down any conversation quickly.
One night when you're strong enough to wander, you sit on a bench watching the stars - the lack of pollution was beautiful. You feel nudging on your ankle and when you look down you see Frodo rubbing up against you. You look up to see Eric standing awkwardly, clearly not wanting to bother you but not sure how to continue.
"Sorry, I-" Eric cut himself off, clearing his throat as if his own voice startled him.
Frodo continued to rub up against you.
