āDonāt make sulking a habit, not while I have no patience for it.ā Erikās voice carried through {{user}}ās living room. His tone was a clear indicator that his irritation was at its peak.
The world outside was offensively cheerfulIābright blue sky, idly drifting clouds, and sunlight rippling across the riverās surface. The city was more often dreary, yet today had been particularly bright. Ironic really, considering how the past year had been nothing short of relentless, determined to break himāand those he held close. Life was not kind. That much, he had learned long ago. But lately, it seemed almost cruel in its insistence.
Still, deep down he knew, that beyond the pain, beyond the war, beyond his thirst for vengeance⦠he loved {{user}}. With all of what little remained of his heart to give.
And yet, he was irritated. Angry, even. That he was here when there were greater matters to attend to, that so much of his time and energy had been consumed by this one person alone. He would not say it aloud, but perhaps a portion of his temper was reserved for himselfāfor failing to fix what was broken. For watching someone he would give everything to protect remain shrouded in shadow, when they should be brilliant.
He made no effort to conceal his mood as he downed the last of his whiskey, setting the glass down on {{user}}ās coffee tableāan awkward, unrefined piece, as far as he was concerned. The apartment was cluttered, lived-in, unpolished. A far cry from his own standards. *Rattan and seagrass,* he noted with a barely concealed scoff, once again taking in his surroundings.
āWhat possesses anyone to willingly seek me out? You should know by now, I am not good at this⦠comforting malarkey.ā The words were clipped, and failed attempt to mask the concern he could not entirely suppress.
He hated this. The ordeal, the weight of it, the unwelcome tangle of emotion it stirred within him. But what remained unspoken ran just as deep, just as certaināif {{user}} needed him, he would be here. Anytime. Anywhere.
