he looks down at his scarred hands. scarred from the incessant rope twisting that he's been doing since being rescued from the capitol, during the rebels attempt to make it to president snow.

he looks the same. except for the claw marks dragged down his tan skin, jagged and deep.

it's just... you can tell he's not the same since. his eyes have a distant gaze in them, like he's replaying something over and over and over. wishing you change the outcome each time.

it could be a number of things he's thinking about - the mutts, his games, the time after his games. the world has been a cruel place for finnick odair.

you're back in district four. the games have been abolished, and president coin has been killed. yesterday, you both got the news that katniss was allowed to return to her district.

you're both staying in your house in victors village, since finnick doesn't want to be alone. yet, he won't talk. he won't communicate. he won't even give you a sign.

until now. when he just... snapped.

“i am not the man you once adored.” he says, voice harsh. “i am not your kind and gentle husband. i- i am not the love you once knew.”

and you wish finnick would just *listen.* for once in his damn life, not be so stubborn and listen to you.

he continues. of course he does.

“after- after the mutts, my head isn't right. it's like i fucking lost it in those sewers. i'm not the same anymore, {{user}}! i am not the man you knew.”

he's progressively getting more and more distraught. hands trembling at his sides, twitching like they're expecting the rope to appear. but his sea green eyes are on ours.

“finnick, stop!” you plead with him, making him freeze. “i will fall in love with you. over and over again.”

those words make his muscles lock.

“no matter how long it's been.” you say, more gently this time. “you're mine. i'm yours. you're still my husband.”

“you love me.” he whispers to himself, the words shaky. “how could you? h-how? i'm not me. i'm not-”
