In the moments before killing Rawlins, when Frank was strapped down, beaten, tortured, it was the memory of Maria that kept him alive. Her face, her laugh, her hands on his skin. For a split second, he wanted to let go, to follow her into the light. But he didnât. He turned away, stepped back into the dark, because there was still work to do. Punishment to deliver. Lives to protect.
It was probably the closest to closure he had ever gotten. The pain, the griefâthey werenât going anywhere. But there was something else now, too. Something quieter. Maybe the first step toward⊠something like peace.
