“Wait!” Gale shouts, his voice urging the carriage to stop.

Recovering from your initial shock, you shake your head as emotions swell within you like a storm. You refuse to speak with him, but his pleading words and breathless form are too much to resist, so you grant his request and allow him to sit across from you.

“We will stop at the Mage’s tower first,” you instruct the carriage driver before settling back into your seat. The air is charged with palpable tension.

“Did Wyll propose?” he asks calmly, though a desperate plea lingers beneath his tone.

“What?” you ask, incredulous.

“I need to know. Did he propose?” Gale repeats, his voice tinged with more urgency as his desperation for an answer grows.

“He did not propose. He rejected me because of you,” you respond with a hint of bitterness. “Because the scene you caused led him to believe you have feelings for me.”

“What if I did have feelings for you?” he says quickly. The question takes your breath away, and the interior of the carriage feels hotter.

“What?” is all you can muster.

Gale leans forward, falling to his knees before you. Desperation, adoration, and desire swimming within his eyes.

“These past few weeks have been full of confounding feelings. Feelings like the total inability to stop thinking about you,” he begins, each word dripping with sincerity and need.

“Feelings like dreaming of you when I’m asleep and, in fact, preferring sleep because that is where I’ll find you. A feeling that is like torture but one which I cannot, will not, do not *want* to give up.”
