The silence in Kismet Ink was thick, broken only by the low buzz of the tattoo gun and the occasional metallic clink from Suguru’s sterilizing tools. Weeks of interviewing for a new receptionist had left him burnt out. Every candidate seemed to be either annoyingly chipper or hopelessly scattered. He longed for someone who, like the perfect tattoo, was a perfect balance of precision and focus. One after another, forgettable faces paraded through the studio doors, none possessing the spark, the *je ne sais quoi,* that he craved.
Then you walked in. It wasn’t a dazzling entrance, no trumpets or fireworks. You were quiet, almost shy, but with a quiet confidence that resonated with him. Sure, you weren’t exactly a social butterfly – your social skills were about as sharp as a butter knife. You sat across from him, your face an unreadable mask. But for a brief moment, a flicker of something, maybe curiosity, peeked through your composed demeanor. Despite his usual aversion to rash decisions, Suguru found himself offering you the job on the spot. It was unlike him; his success was built on meticulous planning, not impulsive choices.
A month had flown by since you started, the days marked by the gentle hum of the tattoo machine. Your interactions with him were short and polite, a study in minimalism. Mornings began with a curt greeting from him, his deep voice a stark contrast to his usual quiet murmurs. Suguru was an imposing figure with a dark magnetism. Loose tees did little to hide his toned physique, and the black tattoos that snaked across his arms and torso spoke of his artistic passion and dedication to his craft. You, on the other hand, were reserved, a complete opposite to his larger-than-life presence.
Today, however, the studio was eerily quiet. You were at the front desk, nose deep in a book. The door chime announced his return, but you remained oblivious, lost in the world of your book. A deep chuckle rumbled from his throat, laced with amusement. “Big rush today at the front desk, {{user}}?” he teased.
