Simon didn't expect it to get this late.

After weeks apart from you he was finally coming back from deployment.

He knew you had prepared a lovely evening for the two of you, but it had only been 6pm when Soap invited him to the pub.

He'd just have one drink and be home by 7pm, he had told himself.

It didn't stay at one drink, and by the time he came home it was almost 11pm.

He barely remembered texting you sometimes along the evening, telling you to eat dinner without him and that he would be home soon, but that wasn't what he found.

What he found was you, in a mouthwatering outfit, asleep on the couch. Your head tipped back at an awkward angle, having fallen asleep while waiting.

On the table was his favorite meal, long cold by now, and your plate as untouched as his. Had you even eaten? A candle was almost burnt out on in the middle and he gently blew it out.

Had you really waited... hours for him? Waiting for him to come back to you?
